Principal Networking Quality Engineer QA

Our client is a provider of solutions for video and web traffic on mobile networks, with more than 125 cumulative operator deployments in 60 countries.  They are privately held, VC funded, and profitable!  This is a great opportunity in a fast growing sector.



  • Identify and provide test strategies and estimates based on requirements for component and system testing
  • Serve as the go-to technical QA expert
  • Create installation scripts and release notes
  • Track open issues and facilitate decision making to keep releases progressing and on track
  • Highlight and escalate key risks and issues that might affect the overall schedule
  • Define and thoroughly execute product and integration test plans
  • Diagnose test failures and produce timely test reports
  • Use QA processes to enhance overall engineering results
  • Continuously and proactively look for ways to improve the product testing processes and procedures through appropriate test design and use of tools
  • Assist in the production of effective documentation and test specifications for both internal and external use
  • Test and review product installation guides and manuals and functional specifications
  • Communicate and gather test requirements from customer feedback


Required Qualifications:

  • At least 10 years’ experience in software testing, with at least 2 years as a team lead/technical lead
  • Proven ability to lead and mentor a team of quality engineers, providing technical direction to the team; coordinating test planning, scheduling, job allocation; and interfacing with management
  • Demonstrated success in specifying, implementing, and maintaining functional and integration test plans in a commercial software environment
  • Experience with enterprise software and service-based offerings
  • Strong UNIX/Linux, Windows and networking skills, and working knowledge and understanding of C/C++, shell scripts and Perl
  • Strong foundation in TCP/IP and L2-L3 switching/routing concepts, with experience configuring and deploying test labs networks
  • Understanding of basic ARP, STP, VLAN, OSPF, ACLs (filtering), VRRP concepts and configurations
  • Experience with L4-L7 application protocol testing
  • Professional with a strong analytical and structured approach to problem solving and testing
  • Highly organized approach to the tasks set, with ability to complete independently, on time and to budget
  • Ability to look at the big picture, understand product architectures and requirements and testing challenges, and come up with test methodologies and plans
  • Team player who recognizes and contributes to the value and quality of the team's deliverables
  • Effective communicator, both written and verbal, within the team and across departmental teams
  • Ability to successfully complete assigned projects with minimal direction or supervision
  • Proven ability to learn new technologies independently
  • Prepared to take responsibility and ownership of assigned tasks


Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s in Computer Science or related discipline preferred
  • Experience with mobile devices a plus
  • Knowledge of authentication and accounting services and protocols such as RADIUS, LDAP, TACACS,  and PCRF and usage of third-party authentication and accounting servers desirable
  • Knowledge of switch redundancy protocols such as VRRP desirable
  • Knowledge of IPv6 desirable
